Man kills son, injures daughter

ISLAMABAD: A man allegedly killed his one-and-a-half-year-old son and injured his two-and-a-half-year-old daughter for making noise, sources told Dawn on Friday.

The incident, which took place in Bilal Town, came to light when a woman, a nurse at Pims, lodged a complaint with the police, claiming that her husband killed their son and injured their daughter.

Saleem Masih, the nurse’s brother, told Dawn that his sister had gone to the hospital on June 6 and when she returned in the evening, found her children missing.

She inquired about them from her husband but he kept silent, he said.

Later, she searched for them and asked from the neighbours about their whereabouts, he said. Later, she found her children on the rooftop of her house.

Both were conscious but her son’s heartbeat was not normal. The children had marks of torture on their bodies, he said, adding that his sister took them to the hospital where her son was pronounced dead.

The police registered a case on the charge of murder and arrested the suspect, Saleem Masih said, adding that his brother-in-law was jobless for the last couple of weeks.

When contacted, Investigating Officer Inspector Anis Akbar said during preliminary interrogation, the man confessed to having murdered the child.

He disclosed that he was under the influence of liquor at the time and his children were making noise, which annoyed him.

He asked them to keep quiet, but they did not, the inspector quoted the man as saying, adding that as a result he lost his temper and threw his son on the floor, which resulted in serious injuries to him.

The suspect will be produced in the court of the magistrate today (Saturday) to seek his physical remand, Inspector Akbar said.
