LHC judge releases nine prisoners during jail visit
LAHORE: Lahore High Court senior puisne judge Justice Mamoon Rashid Sheikh visited the Camp Jail on the first day of Eidul Fitr (June 5), distributed gifts among the prisoners and issued release orders for nine of them who were imprisoned for minor offences.
Lahore District & Sessions Judge Qaiser Nazir Butt also joined him during the visit that included inspection of the jail’s hospital and other basic facilities.
Justice Sheikh expressed his satisfaction with the quality of the facilities being provided to the inmates inside the jail.
He visited the cell of the juvenile prisoners and spent a considerable time with them.
He was of the view that the children were the future of the country and there must be adequate arrangements for their training in jails.
Justice Sheikh said unemployment was one of the main reasons behind the growing crime rate in society.
He said that every criminal must be punished but the punishment should not be more than the crime.
The judge issued release orders for nine inmates involved in minor offences so that they could celebrate Eid with their families.
