Car bomb targets Indian army vehicle in Kashmir, 8 injured

A car bombing targeted an armoured vehicle belonging to the Indian army in occupied Kashmir late on Monday, wounding at least six soldiers and two civilians, officials said. Separately, an army officer and a suspected Kashmiri fighter were killed in a gunbattle.

The Indian army said the attack was a "failed attempt" to target an army patrol in the southern Pulwama area. An army spokesman said the damage was minimised due to the "alertness of the patrol party".

The injured were hospitalised. Officials did not describe the seriousness of their injuries.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

Also on Monday, police said an army officer and a suspected fighter were killed and two soldiers wounded in a day-long gunfight in the southern Anantnag area.
