HYDERABAD: A fully-fledged inquiry into the June 20 train accident involving passenger train Jinnah Express and a coal-laden goods train would be conducted next month by the Lahore-based federal general inspector railways (FGIR), it was learnt on Sunday.

The official had visited Hyderabad along with Pakistan Railways Chief Executive Officer Aftab Akbar on Friday. He had also examined the track and site of incident and would visit Hyderabad again to hold the inquiry.

Jinnah Express rammed into the goods train near Khaskheli Mohallah a couple of kilometres away from the main Hyderabad station leaving driver of the Jinnah Express and two assistant drivers dead.

It was believed that the accident had taken place due to human error.

The Lahore-based PR officer who would be part of the inquiry pointed out that driver of a passenger train was supposed to maintain around 15km speed when they were approaching a station’s outer signal.

In the instant case, railway officials believe the speed was higher than 15km.
