Swabi university postpones exams over parents’ protest
SWABI: The Women University Swabi (WUS) on Monday postponed the BA/BSc examinations, sources in the varsity told Dawn here on Monday.
They said the examinations were postponed because the parents had warned that they won’t allow their daughters to travel long distances from Yar Hussain to take examinations at the examination centre established at the varsity.
The examinations were scheduled to commence on Monday and all the arrangements had been made for the girl candidates of all the affiliated colleges of the varsity.
When contacted, an official said: “Yes, this (refusal of some of the parents) was the reason behind examination postponement.”
Another official said the controller was forced by the circumstances to immediately issue a notification about postponement of the examinations on Monday as this could not be done on Sunday being the holiday.
The notification was addressed to the principals of all affiliated colleges.
The notification said that the fresh schedule for the examinations would be notified later.
FACTORY GUTTED: A major portion of a factory in Gadoon Amazai Industrial Estate was gutted in a fire caused by electricity short-circuit, officials said.
The fire tenders put out the fire after three hours, but not before the blaze had gutted the main section of the factory.BODIES RECOVERED: The police on Monday recovered body of a teenage boy from the Pehur High Level Canal three days after he had jumped into the water to commit suicide.
The relatives and police said the boy clashed with his father over some domestic issue and had left home. He belonged to Mazamkhel Mohallah of Swabi city.
On Monday, his father was informed by the city police station officials that the body of his son had been recovered from the canal. Later, the body was handed over to the family.
Meanwhile, the Chota Lahor police recovered the body of a man from the fields in Jalbai area on Monday.
The victim was killed by unknown persons and the body was dumped in the fields near Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway. The police registered a case and started investigations.
