Business community swings into action against govt

LAHORE: Many organisations of the business community have sprung into action against the economic and taxation policies of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government.

The All Pakistan Anjuman-e-Tajran (APAT) on Tuesday summoned all the presidents representing the traders community in Lahore on July 5 to devise a strategy to press the government withdraw its decision of imposing heavy taxes.

“The presidents and other mainstream leaders of Anjuman-e-Tajran have been requested to gather in Lahore on July 5. In this important gathering, we will decide out future course of action against imposition of huge taxes,” APAT chief Naeem Mir said in a meeting.

“The business activities across the county are already disturbed due to wrong economic policies of the government,” he added.

On the other hand, the All Pakistan Traders Alliance also held a meeting on Tuesday and announced to hold the Tajir Bachao Conference on July 5 at Aiwan-i-Iqbal.

The All Pakistan Mobile Phone Association (Lahore chapter) also announced its support to the association’s protest in Karachi on Tuesday. The association’s office-bearers in a meeting decided to start protest demonstrations in Lahore after 48 hours if the government didn’t withdraw its decision of levying heavy taxes on the unregistered mobile phones.

Meanwhile, the exporters from Sialkot also decided to launch protests against the 17pc GST and announced to observe ‘no-export day’ within next couple of days.
