Wonder Craft: Paper butterfly wind chime

Photos by the writer

A wind chime is a beautiful addition to a room or a balcony, be it a metallic one or a plastic. It adds into the beauty and the chime soothes your mind.

However, the wind chime we are making today makes very small sound, so as not to be too distracting. But those of you who would like to have it make more sound, you can add more beads in the string.

Things you need:

  1. Colourful papers

  2. Yarn thread (any colour)

  3. White glue

  4. Five beads, large (you can add more if you want)

  5. Pencil

  6. Scissors

Directions:

  1. Two-fold three-inch square-shaped piece and draw one side of a butterfly and cut it out, picture 2.

  2. Cut butterflies in the same way from multi-coloured papers, use the first butterfly as your template; you will need 28 butterflies to make a five string chime picture 3.

  3. To make the paper reeds, take any-coloured A-4 size paper, two-fold and cut it from the centre. Take any stick and fold the paper in a slanting way, pictures 4, 5 and 6.

  4. Put one over the other (in a cross-shape) and glue it, picture, 7.

  5. From the yarn thread, cut five strings that are 18-inches long. Make a thick knot at one side and insert the bead picture 8.

  6. Take a butterfly and put glue in the centre, put the string and paste another butterfly over it, pictures 9, 10 and 11.

  7. Paste three pairs of butterfly in each string in the same way. See picture 12.

  8. When all five strings are done, tie each string at the end of paper reed and one in the centre, picture 13.

  9. Take a piece of string, make a loop at the end and tie it in the centre to hang it anywhere, picture 14.
