Traffic between Pind Dadan and Jhelum restored
GUJRAT: The traffic between Pind Dadan Khan and Jhelum cities was resumed on Tuesday evening after some repair work along the road that had earlier been washed away on Tuesday morning, halting the vehicular movement for almost 12 hours.
A crucial portion of an approach road linking the bridge over a storm water channel near Malikpur village has now been temporarily filled with mud by the local authorities.
Jhelum Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Meesam Abbas told Dawn by telephone that soon after the incident was reported to the administration, the Pind Dadan Khan assistant commissioner had been directed to take measures for the restoration of the road.
He claimed that the relief work was completed before evening on Tuesday after which the traffic was restored on both sides of the bridge.
Locals said the rainy water from the upper areas caused flash flood that had damaged the road which, they said, had not been of quality required for such areas.
They have demanded that the Punjab government initiate an inquiry into the matter as the road and bridge had been constructed in 2018.
