— Dawn

DERA GHAZI KHAN: Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has asked the secretary local government to ensure cleanliness of Dera Ghazi Khan city within a week.

The chief minister during his recent visit to his native district took notice of filthy look of the city and deputed Secretary Local Government Iqbal Mazhar to ensure cleanliness of the city as well as Manika canal which, he said, looked like a drain.

More than Rs70 million had been spent on the brick-lining and cleanliness of the canal in the past.

Mr Mazhar told Dawn that the chief minister had given him seven days to ensure anti-encroachment and cleanliness drives.

He said heaps of garbage were being removed from various parts of the city while the canal would be cleaned in three phases.

He said bridges would be constructed over the canal at various points.

He said he visited all tehsils of Dera Ghazi Khan district and found out that the area falling under the Municipal Corporation was in a pathetic condition.
