Social welfare programme launched in Torghar

MANSEHRA: Nazim of Torghar district Dilroz Khan on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of district health offices and launched a social welfare programme for marginalised segments of society.

“Though Torghar was declared a settled district seven years ago, our government has begun the first-ever social welfare programme to bring about a major positive change in the people’s lives,” the nazim told the groundbreaking ceremony in Judbah area.

The nazim said the construction of district health offices promised a proper health infrastructure in Torghar and thus, providing the residents with quality care. He said the health department would recruit 150 employees, including doctors and paramedics, in the district.

The nazim said the district health offices would be set up at the cost of Rs42 million, while work on two rural health centres had entered the final phase.

Meanwhile, the nazim handed over Rs40 million sewing machines to 517 deserving women during a ceremony at the district office.

He said under the social welfare programme, the district government would pay Rs50,000 dowry to 180 girls each for marriages during a ceremony next month.

The nazim said crutches, hearing devices and wheelchairs would also be given away to over 1,000 people with disabilities.

He said work on the development schemes approved in the 2019-20 budget would begin to the benefit of residents.

INAUGURATED: Higher education secretary Manzoor Ahmad inaugurated a hostel at the Hazara University here on Wednesday.

The hostel was built at the financial assistance of Rs60 million granted by the government.

The university has contributed Rs1.2 million for the construction. The secretary said the government was committed to promoting higher education in the province, so the student welfare programme was being launched in universities.
