HYDERABAD: Bar president seeks apology from MQM

HYDERABAD, July 27: Hyderabad District Bar Association secretary Noorul Haq Qureshi has alleged that threats of serious consequences have been issued to association president Chaudhry Bashir Gujjar.

He said Mr Gujjar was feeling insecure in the wake of the July 25 incident when Muttahida Qaumi Movement zonal in-charge Siraj Rajput had allegedly misbehaved with him in the bar room.

He sought an apology from the local MQM leadership and said the bar would decide a future course of action at a meeting of the managing committee if the MQM not do so. He said bar office-bearers reserved the right to registered an FIR about the incident.

Accompanied by association vice-president Abdul Khaliq Leghari, joint secretary Ayaz Tunio, managing committee member Khadim Hussain Khuhro and other lawyers, Mr Qureshi was speaking at a press conference here on Wednesday.

He recalled the incident of July 25 in which Mr Rajput had misbehaved with Mr Gujjar when he had objected to his presence in the bar room for not being an advocate.

He clarified that a short boundary wall of the bar had not been damaged due to a stampede as reported in the press but it had been demolished by 200 workers of the MQM who had also smashed flower pots, violating the sanctity of the bar.

He regretted that instead of approaching bar officials, MQM activists Tauheed and others had gone to Mr Gujjar’s office and warned him of implication in a case of immoral activities.

He said the association president was feeling insecure and he had closed his office and had not been coming to the bar since the incident.
