Original Nasa moon-walk videos auctioned

The original Nasa videotapes of the Apollo 11 moon walk were auctioned off for $1.82 million on the 50th anniversary of the feat.

Nasa intern Gary George paid $217.77 for those three tapes and other Nasa footage at a government surplus auction in 1976, Sotheby’s house said in a news release.

Sotheby’s Space Exploration auction was conducted at its sale room in New York. The buyer, who paid $1,820,000 plus commission for first-generation Nasa videotapes wasn’t identified.

“Fifty years ago, we achieved the world’s greatest human accomplishment, and what we universally recall about that event is best documented on these tapes,” said Cassandra Hatton, vice president and senior specialist in Sotheby’s Books & Manuscripts Department, said in the news release. “We are truly over the moon about today’s outstanding result.”

Minnie Mouse’s voice actress dies

Fans of Minnie Mouse have to bear the sad news of the demise of the voice actress Russi Taylor in Glendale, Calif., the Walt Disney Company announced. She was 75.

The Massachusetts native is best known as the official voice of Minnie Mouse. For more than 30 years, she was heard playing the iconic character in films, TV shows and theme park attractions.

“Minnie Mouse lost her voice with the passing of Russi Taylor,” Bob Iger, the company’s chairman and chief executive officer, said in a statement after the performer’s death.

In 1991, Taylor married Wayne Allwine, who had voiced Mickey Mouse since 1977. Allwine died in 2009. Taylor also voiced characters in the animated TV shows The Simpsons, the original Duck Tales, Tale Spin, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, Kim Possible, Sofia the First, The Lion Guard and Tangled: The Series.
