LIEDA issued licence for power distribution

QUETTA: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on has issued licence of power distribution company (Disco) to Lasbela Industrial Estate Development Authority (LIEDA).

LIEDA officials said on Friday that the authority had applied for the Disco licence many years ago and finally Nepra granted approval.

LIEDA will be the second Disco in Balochistan to hold a distribution licence after Quetta Electric Supply Company (Qesco).

Qesco – which is owned by the federal government – is responsible for distribution of power supply to entire Balochistan. The new Disco will work under Balochistan government.

LIEDA officials said the new company will take charge of power distribution to industries working in Lasbela district which are presently getting power supply from Karachi-based K-Electric.

“LIEDA will now enjoy administrative, financial and operational benefits,” a senior official of the authority said.

He added that the move will not only help LIEDA in further strengthening the authority but also fulfill the power requirements in future industrialisation planned by the federal and Balochistan governments.
