LIEDA gets power distribution licence

QUETTA: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has issued the license of a power distribution company to the Lasbela Industrial Estate Development Authority (LIEDA).

LIEDA officials told journalists on Sunday that the authority had applied for the license many years ago and finally Nepra had accepted the application and issued the license.

The new power distribution company will be second in Balochistan to get the license after the Quetta Electric Supply Company (Qesco). Owned by the federal government, Qesco is responsible for power supply to entire Balochistan.

The new company will work under the Balochistan government.

The LIEDA officials said that the new company would supply power to the industries in Lasbela district which were presently getting electricity from K-Electric.

“With the issuance of the power distribution license, the authority will get lots of administrative, financial and operational benefits,” a senior LIEDA official said, adding that this would not only help in further strengthening the authority but also in meeting power requirement of the future industrialisation planned by the federal and Balochistan governments.
