The situation in occupied Kashmir remains unclear after India shut off most means of communication with the outside world, including internet, cellphone and landline networks. India also deployed thousands of troops in the region amid fears that its scrapping of a constitutional provision that gave Kashmiris exclusive, hereditary rights could spark uprisings.
