Attock admin devises peace plan for Muharram

TAXILA: The district peace committee of Attock on Tuesday finalised a ‘Muharram peace plan’ aimed at promoting religious harmony and maintaining peace during the month.

During a meeting chaired by Provincial Minister for Revenue Malik Mohammad Anwar and attended by Deputy Commissioner Ishratullah Khan, District Police Officer Syed Shahzad Nadeem and religious scholars, the participants vowed to ensure that the sanctity of each other’s faith would be respected.

It was unanimously decided that religious scholars would organise peaceful processions at the district level.

The provincial minister called for strict administrative and security measures to avert any untoward incident. He said the government was determined to provide complete security to majalis and processions.

“Extra force will be deployed at imambargahs and majalis points,” he added.

He said authorities concerned had been asked to take all possible measures to maintain law and order during the month. He directed the institutions to maintain coordination and take action against the law breakers.

The DC said religious scholars were playing an exemplary role in ensuring peace and harmony among all sects in coordination with provincial and district authorities.

The DPO said security and cleanliness of the routes of Muharram processions and other arrangements would be ensured.
