Pillion riding banned in Sindh on Muharram 9, 10

The Sindh government on Saturday imposed a ban on pillion riding on Muharram 9 and 10 to avoid any untoward incident and maintain law and order condition in the province.

According to a notification issued by the provincial home department, the ban has been imposed under Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code.

The ban, however, will not be applicable to women, children under the age of 12, senior citizens, journalists, law enforcement personnel in uniform as well as employees of essential services.

In addition to pillion riding, carrying arms and or ammunition except for uniformed personnel of police, Rangers and other law enforcement agencies will also be banned from Muharram 1 to 10. Assembly of five people except Muharram processions, majalis and tazia, objectionable, provocative wall chalking, banners, posters and speeches are also banned for 10 days under Section 144. Aerial firing and taking out processions without permission of the competent authorities have also been barred.

According to the notification, all permissions issued by the home department to carry weapons in relaxation of ban under 144 will remain suspended during the 10-day period.
