Fresh round of anti-polio drive begins in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Abbas Baloch launched a new anti-polio campaign here on Monday at a government hospital by vaccinating children.
The drive comes after reports emerged on Sunday of two fresh polio cases in the city.
Mr Baloch said Hyderabad was the second largest city of Sindh, which received people from other areas of the country. People from upcountry and tribal areas arrived here since medical facilities were available in the city, he said.
He said that those conditions made Hyderabad a challenging city and polio vaccination campaign was a national duty for which the administration was playing its due role and striving to ensure vaccination of children below five years of age. He said that all targets must be met in that regard.
Maintaining that the administration had been supervising the campaign regularly, he said that all indictors, including pre- and post-campaign issues, were analysed. Efforts were also on to address operational issues because field workers faced new issues every day.
