Alleged woman smuggler killed in Charsadda
CHARSADDA: An alleged woman drug smuggler was killed and another was injured when the police exchanged fire with the inmates of a car after a brief chase here on Saturday.
The police arrested the injured woman and the car driver, stated to be husband of the dead woman, and recovered a big cache of drugs from the vehicle.
A constable was also injured when the car hit the police van in a bid to escape.
Officials said the in-charge of Sardaryab police post, Falak Niaz Khan, signaled a car coming from the Peshawar side, but the driver ignored the signal and sped away.
The police started chasing the car and also passed the information to another police post officials who erected a blockade on the Choti Pull to stop them.
However, the car driver smashed the barrier and also hit the police van, injuring constable Ajmal.
The police chased the car and after a brief exchange of fire overpowered the driver.
As a result of the firing, a woman, wife of the driver, Laiq Zada, and his sister were injured.
They were shifted to a hospital where the car driver’s wife died.
The police recovered over eight kilogramme heroin, 7.6 kilogramme charas and 1,260 gram opium from the car, and arrested Laiq, his injured sister, and his three children and two nephews, all hailing from Mashokhel area of Peshawar.
The police registered the case and started further investigations.
