Nagarparkar, Badin and Sanghar get heavy rainfall

MITHI: Nagarparkar town and other parts of the hilly region were blessed with what is being described as “heaviest rainfall of the season” late on Saturday evening after intermittent spells of heavy rains over the last three days.

Over 60mm of rainfall was recorded in Nagarparkar town and Karoonjhar hills on Saturday. The downpour caused high flows in riverlets that filled the small dams — Bhitani and Ghartiani — and other reservoirs in the area.

Overjoyous farmers said filling of the dam and flows in the waterways had rekindled their hope for high yield of traditional crops in the Rabi season, mainly the chief crop, onion.

The area people talking to this reporter on Sunday said that the Parkar region had already received sufficient rains for their traditional crops as well as more than enough fodder for their livestock. They hoped that the water stored in more than 11 dams would not only cater to the drinking requirement of the local population, but also make sufficient water available for the irrigation purpose in the coming months.

The Nagarparkar taluka has so far received over 360mm of rainfall. Mithi town, parts of Diplo, Kaloi and some other towns of Thar also received light to moderate rains on Sunday.

It was raining in certain areas when story was filed at around midnight.

Parts of Badin and Sanghar districts also received rains late on Sunday evening.
