Ushna overcomes Sarah to clinch tennis title

ISLAMABAD: Ushna Suhail defeated Sarah Mehboob in the Eighteen Subh-e-Nau National Ladies Tennis Championship final here at the PTF Tennis Complex on Sunday.

The experienced finalists played excellent tennis in the final that lasted almost three hours. Ushna won the first set 7-6(5) but Sarah was strong in the second, winning it 6-7(4). Ushan, however, had the last laugh as she comfortably took the decisive set 6-1, and with it the match.

Ushna earned prize money of Rs40,000 while her Sarah received Rs25,000.

Late on Saturday, Ushna pairing with Sara Mansoor bagged the ladies doubles title. They defeated Sarah Mehboob and Meheq Khokhar 6-2, 7-5. Winning duo took Rs20,000 as prize money while the runners-up pocketed Rs15,000.

Hania Minhas completed double crown in the tournament as she seized the girls 12 & under title beating Amna Ali Qayum 5-4(0), 4-0. Hania had also won U-10 title.

As the prize distribution ceremony Senator Syed Dilawar Abbas, Chairman Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), was the chief guest. Eighteen’s Senior Director Uzair Adil, chairperson Subh-e-Nau chairperson Shahida Kausar Farooq and a number of noted guests were also present on the occasion.

Speaking to Dawn, Shahida said Pakistani girls players have the potential to excel. “The players throughout this tournament exhibited quality tennis, which is a good omen for Pakistan tennis.”
