LHC allows transfer of Hafiz Saeed case

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday allowed an application for transfer of a case against Jamaatud Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed from the anti-terrorism court of Gujranwala to Lahore.

Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Shamim Khan allowed the application after hearing arguments by Imran Fazal Gill advocate.

The counsel pleaded that the petitioner was being kept in a jail in Lahore and was taken to Gujranwala for every hearing of the case. He said appearing before the Gujranwala court was not suitable for security reasons and the life of the petitioner might be at risk.

The counsel said since the petitioner had been detained in a Lahore’s prison, the case should also be shifted to the same city.

A law officer said the government had no objection to transfer of the case.

The chief justice accepted the application and permitted transfer of the case to Lahore.

In July, Saeed and his other aides were arrested on charges of terrorism financing while they were on their way to Gujranwala.
