FBR updates ‘Tax Asaan’ mobile app

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Thursday launched a comprehensive revised version of its ‘Tax Asaan’ app for filing of salaried and non-salaried returns along with a facility of e-registration for new taxpayers.

The app has been operational since Sept 16 but its scope was limited to the salary income of an individual. The revised version is now covering all incomes and assets of salaried and non-salaried individuals.

On Thursday, Member Policy Dr Hamid Ateeq Sarwar made a detailed presentation on the salient features of the revised version of ‘Tax Asaan’ to the Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue.

Talking to Dawn Dr Sarwar said that within 24 days of its launch, the mobile app for simplified return has received 50,000 salary returns digitally and thousands of downloads of the app, indicating its success according to the FBR.

FBR has updated the app for income tax return filing for salaried and non-salaried persons, Dr Sarwar said, adding that it would greatly assist taxpayers in the filing of their returns without any trouble. “We now encourage all taxpayers to submit their returns on time,” he said.

The app can be downloaded on Google’s official Android operating system and on Apple’s iOS mobile operating system.

Under the new app, a provision of new e-registration of taxpayer on the tax roll is introduced. After registration, the system will generate automatic user name and password. The individuals can login on the app to home page.

There is also the option of creating new wealth statement through this app.

The home page carries various option icons including income tax return, sales tax registration, payment and online verification system. The clicking on income tax return icon will open tax return (income tax) page. This page offers two options — normal return and salaried return.

Select normal return in the case of incomes from any of the sources — salary, property, capital assets, foreign, agricultural and other sources, while select salaried return in case income is only from salary and other sources where salary is more than 50 per cent of total income.

After selection of return type, the individual will have to go through almost 26 pages to complete the tax returns. The information on these pages are supported by visuals to make it user friendly.
