HYDERABAD: 67 elected unopposed in 52 UCs of Hyderabad

HYDERABAD, Aug 6: A total of 67 candidates, including three pairs of nazims and naib nazim, two of them backed by MQM’s Haq Parast Group, returned unopposed in the Hyderabad district on six categories of 52 UCs.

Three seats, two of peasant and worker (women) and one of minority, remained vacant following last date of withdrawal of nomination candidatures.

A total number of 1,934 are up against each other in the district’s 52 UCs.

The pairs of HPG-backed nazims and naib nazims in UC-14 and UC-17 of the City Taluka and one pair of nazim and naib nazim in UC-9 Latifabad taluka were elected unopposed.

Eight candidates returned unopposed on Muslim general (men) seats, four each in City and Latifabad talukas on Muslim general (men) seats, six candidates, four in City and two in Latifabad taluka were elected unopposed on Muslim general (women), ten candidates including six in City and four in Latifabad returned unopposed on peasant and worker (men) seats, 20 women returned unopposed as peasant and worker (women) including 10 in City, eight in Latifabad and two in Hyderabad (rural) taluka.

Twenty minority candidates were also elected unopposed including nine in City, 10 in Latifabad and one in Hyderabad (rural) taluka.

There are 1,934 candidates who are contesting in the 52 UCs of the district after 577 candidates withdrew from contest.

Out of 641 candidates of the City Taluka, 50 pairs of nazims and naib nazims are contesting, 291 for Muslim general (men), 96 for Muslim general (women), 114 peasant and worker (men), 62 for peasant and worker (women) and 28 for minority.

Of 553 candidates of Latifabad taluka, 47 pairs of nazims and naib nazims are in the race, 242 Muslim general (men), 87 Muslim general (women), 108 peasant and worker, 48 peasant and worker (women) and 21 minority.

There are 230 candidates in Qasimabad taluka including 23 pairs of nazims and naib nazims, 97 Muslim general (men), 33 Muslim general (women), 49 peasant and worker (men), 17 peasant and worker (women) and 11 minority.

Of 510 contesting candidates of Hyderabad (rural) taluka, 36 pairs of nazims and naib nazims, 228 for Muslim general (men), 60 for Muslim general (women), 116 for peasant and worker (men), 43 peasant and worker (women) and 27 minority.

In all, 156 pairs of nazims and naib nazims, 858 Muslim general (men), 276 Muslim general (women), 387 peasant and worker (men), 170 peasant and worker (women) and 87 minority candidates are in the field now.
