Asif to lead Pakistan at IBSF World Snooker
KARACHI: Former world amateur snooker champion Mohammad Asif will spearhead Pakistan attack in the men, women and master’s categories in the IBSF World Snooker Championships which starts at the Turkish city of Antalya from Tuesday.
The Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Federation (PBSF) has named a four-member team for the men’s competition. Besides Asif the other three include former Pakistan No 2 Zulfiqar A. Qadir, Babar Masih and Mubashir Raza.
The PBSF will bear the travel expenses of Asif and Zulfiqar while Mubashir and Babar have arranged sponsorships. The former was ranked fifth while the latter 13th when the entries were sent for the world event.
The incumbent national master’s champion Abu Saim is unlucky not to accompany the team as financial constraints have compelled the PBSF to skip the event this time, an official said.
The PBSF President Munawwar Hussain Shaikh will fly to Antalya later to attend the annual general meeting of the IBSF which is slated to take place on Nov three.
