31 development projects for Azad Kashmir approved

MUZAFFARABAD: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Development Working Party (AJK-DWP) on Friday considered and approved as many as 31 development projects of public welfare at an estimated cost of Rs15.9 billion.

The 4th meeting of AJK-DWP was held here under the chairmanship of the Additional Chief Secretary, Development Dr Syed Asif Hussain.

Representatives of federal government, secretaries of the respective line departments and officials of planning and development department attended the meeting.

The approved projects included livestock semen production centre in Jatlan Mirpur, restoration of wildlife park at Patikka, Muzaffarabad, provision of basic amenities in Athmuqam, district headquarters of Neelum, POL quality control laboratory in Mirpur and feasibility study on Special Economic Zone, Mirpur.

Additionally, projects relating to the education sector reforms, better transportation facilities and infrastructure development were also considered.

These includedreconditioning and resurfacing on around 179-km-long existing roads in different constituencies of north and south zones along with three bridges, revised project of 45 Megawatts Jagran-II hydropower project, e-learning/multimedia classrooms in high and higher secondary schools, construction of boundary wall with Cadet College Palandari and construction of Cadet College (Phase-III) Muzaffarabad.

Speaking on the occasion, the additional chief secretary directed all departments concerned to accomplish the projects within the stipulated timeframe without compromising the quality of work in the larger public interest.
