KARACHI: Sindh Governor Imran Ismail on Saturday said that Pakistan Rangers, Sindh had played a tremendous role in eliminating terrorism and other heinous crimes from the city, which helped bring economic stability and return of international cricket to the provincial capital.

He expressed these views during the 27th passing out parade of Rangers Basic Recruits Training Course at the Sindh Rangers Training Centre in the city.

Governor Ismail, who was received by Sindh DG Rangers Maj Gen Omer Ahmed Bukhari, reviewed the parade and gave awards to the distinguished recruits. A total of 966 recruits completed the training.

The governor congratulated the recruits, trainers and their families.

He said: “Pakistan Rangers Sindh has played a pivotal and unique role in maintaining peace and stability and achieved the desired results by eliminating the menace of terrorism and heinous crimes through Karachi operation which resulted in economic stability and returning of international cricket [to] Karachi.”

The governor lauded the sacrifices of officers and soldiers, especially shuhada of the Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, in the line of duty.

A large number of senior serving Rangers officers and relatives of recruits witnessed the parade.

The chief guest witnessed an anti-terrorist demonstration performed by commandos and appreciated their level of training, agility and quick response in handling crisis-like situation, according to an official statement.

City police chief reviews security

The city police chief, Ghulam Nabi Memon, on Saturday held a meeting to assess crimes and strategies to control the problem.

A senior official familiar with this development said that the participants in the meeting exchanged views as to how to control different crimes.

The official added that deliberations regarding murder during snatching, injuries during snatching, killings, house robbery and street crimes were held.

The participants were informed about number of arrests made, gangs that were busted and conviction and acquittal ratio by courts.

The strategies to control the said crimes were also discussed.

Meanwhile, a brief official statement issued after the meeting said that the city police chief held a monthly meeting regarding crimes.

The meeting which was attended by zonal DIGs, SSPs and heads of different units of police exchanged views about the security matters in the city.

All units of the police presented their respective reports about crime control in the metropolis.

The chief appreciated the performance of the police and issued directions for further improvement.
