Drug addicts shifted to rehabilitation centre in Mingora

MINGORA: The district administration along with civil society members admitted 10 drugs addicts to a rehabilitation centre in Mingora after launching a grand operation against them here on Tuesday.

Led by Assistant Commissioner Ishtiaq Khan, the operation was initiated to eliminate the curse of drugs abuse in Swat. A large number of civil society members and philanthropists also took part in the operation.

“We want to eliminate every type of drugs from Swat. Initially we have started from Mingora. Today we found 10 heroin and ice addicts in different parts of Mingora. We put them in the drug rehabilitation centre so that they can recover and become good citizens,” said Ishtiaq Khan after the operation.

He said that the objectives of the operation were rehabilitation of the drugs addicts and eradication of drug abuse in Swat. He said that the operation would continue till achieving its objectives.

The official said that the drug addicts would be caught and put in the rehabilitation centres where they would undergo proper treatment and then released once they became normal.

The 10 drug edicts were admitted to Nawey Jwand rehabilitation center where their proper treatment was started.

“Almost all the 10 persons, brought to the rehabilitation centre, are heroin and ice addicts. They belong to different parts of Mingora including Malookabad, Haji Baba, Banr and Gulshan Chowk,” said Riaz Hairan, the head of Nawey Jwand rehabilitation centre. He added that the addicts would remain in the centre for three months where they would be treated properly.

He said that he was hopeful about their speedy recovery. He said that hundreds of other patients and drug addicts were successfully cured in the centre and were living a normal life.

“After examining their condition, they will be discharged from the centre if they are found healthy and normal. We not only carry out proper treatment but also indulge them in other healthy activities in the centre,” said Mr Hairan.
