Appointment of Ibrarul Haq as PRCS chief challenged

ISLAMABAD: The appointment of renowned singer Ibrarul Haq as the chairman of Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has been challenged in the Islamabad High Court.

Outgoing chairman Saeed Ilahi filed the petition against the notification of Mr Haq as PRCS chairman.

He contended in the petition that his term, which was extended for a period of three years on March 9, 2017, will expire on March 9 next year.

He also pointed out that the appointment of Mr Haq was also in conflict with the PRCS’s interest as the former not only runs a hospital and private college but also collects donations for his non-government organisation (NGO).

He requested the court to set aside the notification issued on Nov 15 with the approval of President Dr Arif Alvi.

The petition cited President Alvi, secretary cabinet division, secretary national health service and Ibrarul Haq as respondents.

IHC would hear the petition next week.
