Bahria College claim SSB girls basketball title

KARACHI: Bahria College beat The City School PAF chapter in the final to lift the title of Commissioner Karachi SSB Cup Girls Basketball tournament at Karachi Gymkhana on Monday.

Leading scorers for the winners were Anosha (12 points) while Hira and Aimen Shahid scored 10 points each.

For the runners up, main scorer was Laiba (16 points) and Maryam (8 points).

Anosha of Bahria College was declared Girl of the Tournament while Laiba of The City School PAF Chapter was named Girl of the Final.

Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shalwani was chief guest in the grand finale and gave away trophies and other prizes to winners and runners-up teams.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that he was impressed by the quality of game displayed by girls. “Our girls are as much capable as our boys to win laurels for the country. I am delighted to see their fine performance here,” said the Commissioner.

He also paid special tribute to Sindh Spots Board and Secretary Sports Sindh Imtiaz Ali Shah for supporting and sponsoring the event and also lauded the services of Karachi Gymkhana for promotion of sports in the metropolis.

It may be mentioned here that Commissioner Karachi has himself been working tirelessly for the betterment of the city and for promotion of sports. He has keenly supported leading sporting events in the metropolis during the year and has won the hearts of the Karachiites by organising a fantastic city marathon early this year as well as announcing another city marathon in January 2020.

Also present on the occasion were KBBA President Ghulam Muhammad, KG Sports Committee Chairperson Parveen Meemwala, PTF vice president Khalid Jameel Shamsi, Assistant Commissioner Civil Lines Fatima Bashir and other sports officials.

The event was organized by Firdaus Ittehad in collaboration with Karachi Basketball Association.
