‘Torture’ of lawyers: 12 unidentified doctors, paramedics booked

LAHORE: Police on Sunday registered a case against 12 unidentified doctors and paramedics allegedly for torturing some lawyers at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC).

A group of lawyers had staged a protest demonstration and blocked the Jail Road in front of the Services Hospital on Saturday after the clash between lawyers, paramedics and doctors at the PIC.

PIC sources said the clash occurred when a lawyer visited the institute accompanying his relative for his check-up and exchanged words with a doctor. Later, he was joined by other lawyers, while doctors and paramedics also came to support the medic.

The lawyers alleged that three of their colleagues were brutally tortured and injured by the PIC doctors and paramedics. The injured lawyers were said to be stable.

The lawyers later lodged complaint against the doctors and paramedics in Shadman police station and a case was registered against 12 unidentified persons.

Investigating officer said medical examination of the injured lawyers would be conducted. He said the suspects were unidentified and could be recognised through identification parade in front of the victims.

He said the hospital administration would be formally called after complainants would be able to join the investigation as they were injured.
