Bar resents nomination of two judges to IHC

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA) on Tuesday expressed resentment over nomination of two judges from Sindh and Balochistan to the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

The bar association issued a resolution in order to register its protest on the nomination of advocate Lubna Saleem from Sindh and advocate Ghulam Azam Qambrani from Balochistan.

The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Asif Saeed Khan Khosa on Nov 21 approved the names of advocate Fiaz Anjum Jandran, Ms Saleem and Mr Qambrani for the three vacant positions of IHC judges.

Mr Jandran is the member of the Islamabad Bar Council (IBC) and the IHCBA did not express reservation on his nomination.

However, regarding the nomination of other two judges, the bar association warned of launching protest movement as it is tantamount to depriving the local lawyers of their right to be appointed as IHC judges.

The bar association requested the Parliamentary Committee on the appointment of judges not to endorse nomination of Ms Saleem and Mr Qambrani.
