Robbery doesn’t seem to be motive behind army officer’s murder: police

ISLAMABAD: Investigators in the army officer’s murder case say robbery seems not to be the motive behind his killing, police told Dawn.

Police say in robberies, culprits loot valuables and cash and open fire on the victims only on resistance. But in the army officer’s murder case, they left from the scene without looting cash or valuables.

On Nov 22, Maj Laraib Akhter, an SSG commando, was shot dead by two persons in G-9/1 where he was sitting with a friend.

Meanwhile, a lower court on Tuesday freed the victim’s friend, an executive officer at a private airlines company.

Police had arrested her on Nov 23 on suspicion and produced her in the court of a magistrate twice for physical remand. On Tuesday, police produced her in the court again seeking more remand and permission for a polygraph test but the magistrate denied the permission and let her go.

Police say as she gave contradictory statements during interrogation, the investigators had decided to take a polygraph test of her.

Though she was discharged in the case, the investigators can call her for the polygraph test, said the police.

So far the investigators have interrogated over 50 suspects in the murder case.
