Rights violations in Kashmir being documented: HRW

KARACHI: The Human Rights Watch has extensively documented rights violations in India-held Kashmir since Aug 5, 2019 and continues to do so, the group said on Thursday.

In a statement, the HRW said it has been monitoring and documenting human rights abuses by the Indian government in held Kashmir for nearly three decades now.

Referring to a news item `Women easy targets in held Kashmir, other war zones, says HRW’ published in Dawn on Nov 27, it said the news report seems to suggest that HRW made the statement on women in held Kashmir being vulnerable to abuse recently. The news item may have meant to refer to an older HRW report since while the HRW has highlighted sexual violence against Kashmiri women in the past, it has not done so post August 5, 2019 and has focused on several other issues.
