Promotions, reshuffle in federal bureaucracy

ISLAMABAD: In a massive reshuffle in the bureaucracy, the federal government has appointed Wajid Zia as director general of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and reappointed Yusuf Nasim Khokhar to the position of interior secretary.

Mr Khokhar had been relieved of his duty as chief secretary of Punjab three days ago and his services had been placed at the disposal of the federation. He held the position of interior secretary before being made chief secretary last year.

The other key post of FIA DG was given to inspector general of railways police Wajid Zia, who headed the joint investigation team (JIT) that probed the NAB references against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. He was appointed as railways police IG after the accountability court (AC) had reserved its judgement in the Flagship Investment and Al-Azizia references in December last year.

Additional secretary of PM Office Mohammad Ali Shahzada has been promoted to BPS-22 and posted as special secretary in establishment division.

Climate change secretary Hasan Nasir Jami has been posted to the aviation division as its secretary. He has been replaced by Amir Ashraf Khawaja as secretary climate change.

Afzal Latif has been appointed industries and production secretary. Habibur Rehman Gilani has been appointed railways secretary, while Ali Raza Bhutta has been made poverty alleviation secretary.

Additional secretary Allah Bakhsh Malik has been promoted to grade-22 and posted as the national health services secretary.

Additional secretary food Mohammad Ayub Chaudhry has been appointed as additional secretary petroleum.

Economic Affairs Division secretary Noor Ahmad has been asked to report to the establishment division, while Syed Pervez Abbas has been promoted to grade-22 and appointed in his place.

Additional secretary information Zahida Parveen is among the over one dozen officers from the Pakistan administrative and police services to have been promoted to the BPS-22. She has now been posted as secretary information.

Habibur Rehman Gilani, who has been posted as railways secretary, will also be chairman of the Pakistan Railway Board.

Muhammad Ilyas, a BPS-21 officer of Pakistan administrative services currently serving the Punjab government, has been promoted to BPS 22. His services will remain with the Punjab government.

Imran Nasir Khan (BPS-21), serving as managing director of Pakistan Agriculture Storage and Service Corporation, has been promoted to BPS-22. He will continue to hold his current position.

Dr Pervez Ahmad Khan, working for the Punjab government, has been promoted to BPS-22 and posted as secretary of the ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination.

Ali Raza Bhutta (BPS-21), serving in the Benazir Income Support Programme, has been promoted and posted as secretary poverty alleviation and social safety division.

Babar Hayat Tarrar, presently posted under the Punjab government, has been promoted to BPS-22. His services will remain at the disposal of the Punjab government.

Retired Captain Ahmad Latif, serving under the Punjab government, has been promoted to BPS-22 and appointed managing director of National Police Foundation.

Sardar Ajaz Ahmad Khan Jaffar (BPS-22), presently serving the Punjab government, has been asked to report to the establishment division.

Shaista Sohail (BPS-22) serving as secretary of poverty alleviation in social safety, has been directed to report to the establishment division.

Bashir Ahmad, director general FIA, has been transferred and told to report to the establishment division.

Wilad Fakhar, Waqar Abbasi, Tariq Chohan and Akhtar Hayat, all in BPS 20 serving at the FIA, have been transferred and asked to report to the establishment division.

Irfan Ali Baloch (BPS-20), currently working for the Sindh government, has been transferred and his services placed at the disposal of FIA.

Faisal Ali Raja (BPS-20), presently serving at the National Counter Terrorism Agency, has also been transferred and his services have been placed at the disposal of FIA.
