Yasir’s hat trick restricts SA Academy
KARACHI, Aug 11: Paceman Yasir Ali snapped-up five wickets including a hat trick as South African Academy after a promising start, slumped to 247 for nine wickets on the opening day of their four-day match against Pakistan Academy at National Stadium on Thursday.
The visitors were well placed at 164 for three wickets at tea, but Yasir’s hat trick took the initiative away from tourists.
Pakistan Academy skipper Hasan Raza won the toss and inserted SA to bat first on a firm and easy paced pitch.
After wicket-less first spell of none for 20 in five overs, Attock-born Yasir Ali ripped through SA Academy’s middle and lower order, ending with five wickets for 58 runs in 19 overs.
Leg spinner Mansoor Amjad gave him an excellent support with three wickets for 61 runs in 28 overs.
At the close of play, left handed John Duminy was batting on t 81 after in 297 minutes, having faced 205 deliveries and had struck six boundaries. Ugasen Govender was yet to get off the mark.
Yasir triggered the slump in SA batting ranks in his 13th over. He first had Vaughan van Jaarsaveld caught behind by Zulqarnain for 16, trapped wicket-keeper Ryan Canning lbw for a duck the next ball and shattered the stumps of Adams to grab the hat trick.
Earlier, opening pair of Williamson and Tshabalala gave their team fine start of 63 runs.
But the former was caught by Hasan off Irshad Ali for 31 laced with five boundaries while skipper Francois Plessis was trapped lbw by leg spinner Mansoor Amjad for two.
At lunch break SA Academy side reached 73 for two and were 163 for three at tea interval.
Tshabalala made a steady 59 with three three hits to the fence in 212 minutes before becoming Yasir’s first victim.
