Gujranwala-Sheikhupura Road a picture of neglect

— Dawn

GUJRANWALA: The 65-km Gujranwala-Sheikhupura Road, which connects the city with 37 adjacent cities and small towns, has not been reconstructed or repaired for the last 15 years and is a picture of neglect.

On Sunday, a large number of nearby residents staged a demonstration and demanded that the chief minister take notice of the issue and get the road reconstructed at the earliest.

The protesters said the Gujranwala-Sheikhupura Road was the main route of transportation for the people living between two cities. The road was dug up for laying gas pipelines many years ago but never reconstructed or repaired. It has two-foot deep potholes, causing accidents every day. They said there was no public transport available on the road and private transporters used to charge high fares.

The precarious condition of the road was causing problems for transporting goods like food items.

The protesters demanded that Chief Minister Usman Buzdar look into the matter and get the road reconstructed at the earliest.
