49 matches played at tennis championship

ISLAMABAD: Forty-nine mat­ches were played on the opening day of the fifth Benazir Bhutto Shaheed National Tennis Cham­pionship here at the Islamabad Tennis Complex on Sunday.

Khursheed Abbasi, Shaheen Mehmood, Ibrahim Omer, Numan Aftab, Aman Atiq, Faizan Fayyaz, Jibran ul Haq and Sami Zeb qualified for the men’s singles main draw after winning their respective qualifying matches.

Pakistan’s top player Aisam-ul-Haq partnering veteran Aqeel Khan will be seen in action on Tuesday as they got bye in the first round.

Prominent women players Sara Mansoor, Sara Mehboob, Mehak Khokar, Mahin Aftab, Esha Jawad, and Noor Malik are also featuring in the tournament.
