Chitral villagers repair road on self-help basis

CHITRAL: The people of Balach, Singur and Seen Lusht villages here have repaired on self-help basis the first four kilometres of Garam Chashma road from Chew Bridge, which had been in bad shape for the last three years due to negligence of the communication and works department.

The volunteers said that the road passing through their villages was dotted with potholes and in the absence of any drainage system both irrigation and rainwater would inundate the road making it difficult for the pedestrians to pass through it.

They said that the passing-by vehicles would often splash dirty water standing on the road on the pedestrians going to offices, schools and colleges.

The residents said that after getting disappointed with the elected representatives and C&W department, they decided to rehabilitate it by filling the potholes with gravels and soil on self-help basis.

CHITRAL APML: Reacting to the special court’s verdict against former president retired Gen Pervez Musharraf, the activists of All Pakistan Muslim League (APML), Chitral, on Tuesday offered themselves to be sent to gallows instead of retired Gen Musharraf who constructed the Lowari tunnel for the people of Chitral and had done his best for development of the district.

Addressing a press conference here, the APML leaders, including Waqas Ahmed advocate, Shahzada Amir Hasanatuddin, Pir Nasir Ali Shah, Muhsin Hayat and others, said that the people of Chitral loved Pervez Musharraf for his services to the area and country.

They claimed that the case had been sent by then Nawaz Sharif government with mala fide intentions.

They said that the sentence would be challenged in the Supreme Court.
