Musharraf verdict

EVERYONE now knows the detailed verdict of the Musharraf case. Although the judgment contains some harsh language as mentioned in para 66, the response of DG ISPR is also stern to say the least.

When a short verdict was announced a few days ago, handing down a death sentence, a high-level meeting was called at the GHQ, and in its aftermath, the DG ISPR had announced that the verdict was one-sided and justice had not been done. He also mentioned that there was pain and anguish inside military circles.

He may well be right in his argument. If this is so then what about the case of retired Lt Gen Asad Durrani who was tried for writing a book in collaboration with the then chief of India intelligence agency, RAW?

The response of the government is to say the least very surprising. I am reminded of what Prime Minister Imran Khan used to proclaim then. His statement are available in media archives and social media that “Musharraf must be tried under article 6 of the constitution.”
