Govt allocates Rs350m for Chakwal varsity

LAHORE: The Punjab government on Wednesday allocated Rs350 million for establishing a university after the Punjab Assembly unanimously passed the University of Chakwal Bill 2019 three days ago.

The Punjab Assembly members also unanimously passed the amendment (of opposition) of changing the name from the University of North Punjab to the University of Chakwal.

Punjab Higher Education Department Secretary Sajid Zafar Dall said the Government Post Graduate College, Chakwal, would be turned into the University of Chakwal and Rs350 million were allocated for establishing the university. He said the university would start admissions from the next academic year with five faculties -- arts, humanities and pure sciences, agriculture, business management, allied health and sciences and engineering.

He said the University of Engineering and Technology, Taxila, sub-campus Chakwal would also be given the status of constituent college of the University of Chakwal.

Mr Dall said the faculty of the college would be given one-year provision to work with the university and later they would have to decide whether they wanted to continue with the university or with the HED.

He said those faculty members who wanted to work with the university would have to announce retirement from the HED and if they did not want so they would be transferred to any college under the HED.

He said the deputy commissioner had been directed to give a suitable piece of land for extending the area of the college to establish the university. He said they would soon issue notification for the establishment of the university and later someone would also be given interim charge of the post of the vice chancellor.

INTER ANNUAL EXAMS: All Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education of the province on Wednesday announced the schedule of annual examination 2020 starting on April 28.

According to the schedule, the examination forms would be submitted with single fee from Jan 6 to 30, with double fee from Jan 31 to Feb 10 and with triple fee the forms could be submitted from Feb 11 to 17.

Punjab Boards Committee of Chairmen Secretary Dr Rehana Ilyas directed the authorities to implement the schedule.
