Nepra notifies tariff hike

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Wednesday notified the increase of Rs1.56 per unit in power tariff on account of fuel adjustment cost of electricity consumed in October 2019 putting an additional burden of around Rs14.50 billion on consumers across the country except K-Electric.

The decision in this regard was made in a public hearing presided by Nepra Chairman Tausif H. Farooq on Dec 26, 2019 upon request by Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) to increase electricity rates by Rs1.73 per unit.

It was revealed during the hearing that the furnace oil-based power generation plants were operational due to low gas pressure as winter demand approached after the mid of November.

The CPPA maintained that 25.48 per cent of electricity was generated from hydel sources, followed by 25.41 per cent from imported LNG and 12.17pc from local gas in October while no electricity was generated from diesel.
