LANDI KOTAL: Peshawar Corps Commander Lt Gen Nauman Mehmud visited Torkham border on Thursday and assessed the security situation besides meeting border security officials.
The corps commander went up to the border Zero Point and also met officials of National Logistics Cell import terminal and Nadra terminal. He was accompanied by Inspector General Frontier Corps (North) Maj Gen Rahat Naseem, commandant Khyber Rifles Col Bilal and Lt Col Faisal Khan and other security officials.
Lt Gen Mehmud met Afghan nationals at the immigration and Nadra terminals and enquired from them about the facilities provided to them by the government of Pakistan. He was later given a detailed security briefing about the overall border situation. Strict security measures were adopted during his visit.
Meanwhile, khasadars in Jamrud briefly detained Peshawar policemen who had crossed into the Jamrud tehsil in their pursuit to arrest unidentified men from Wazir Dhand locality.
Khasadar personnel said that Peshawar police did not inform them about their raid on a hideout during which armed men retaliated by opening fire and escaping from the scene.
The policemen were later ‘released’ upon the intervention of police and local administrative officials.
