Young man commits suicide after killing ‘estranged’ wife in Karachi

KARACHI: A young man shot dead his ‘estranged’ wife before committing suicide over some domestic issues in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Monday, officials said.

East SSP Tanveer Alam Odho said that Hadi Mubarak, 26, killed his wife, Kanza Ahmed, 25, at her Block-14 home and then ended his life by shooting himself.

He said that the victim had on Sunday night come to her parents’ home after developing differences with her in-laws.

On Monday afternoon, both the families met each other to resolve the issue but ostensibly failed to do so.

The police said the husband expressed his desire to meet with his estranged wife alone. They went to another room where he pulled out a pistol, shot her in the head and then also shot himself in the head.

The Sharea Faisal police said that Mubarak was a civil engineer by profession and his wife was reportedly a doctor. The couple was living in Green Town and had two daughters.

Area SHO Sarwar Commando said that Mubarak’s parents admitted that their son had committed a “mistake”.

Another officer, Nasir Iqbal, said both families stated that they did not want to pursue the case legally.

The couple often fought with each other over minor issues, he added.

Muggers snatch Rs300,000 in Clifton

A 35-year-old man was shot at and wounded by robbers over resistance in the Defence area on Monday, according to police.

Ghulam Mustafa drew Rs300,000 from a bank branch and was riding a motorbike when armed pillion riders intercepted him on Street 31, Tauheed Commercial Area, DHA Phase-V, and demanded cash at gunpoint.

Mustafa gave them Rs100,000, but the robbers demanded the remaining Rs200,000, which suggested that they already knew how much cash he was carrying, said Clifton SHO Pir Shabbir Haider.

As he put up resistance, the robbers shot him and rode away along with the looted cash.

The officer said the police were investigating the case.

The robbery victim sustained a bullet wound in the leg and his condition was stated to be out of danger.
