Dr Adnan questions medical board move

LAHORE: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s family physician Dr Adnan Khan has objected to submission of the PML-N supremo’s health report to the Punjab government by the Special Medical Board without taking him on board as a member of the panel.

“Govt of Punjab formed a Special Medical Board to re-examine former PM #NawazSharif’s submitted medical reports. I am a member of said board. Presumably board has submitted its report without my endorsement and/or signatures despite my request & for reasons unknown to me,” reads a tweet of Dr Adnan in response to the Medical Board’s reported statement that the latest medical record of the former premier provided to them is incomplete.

The board met here on Friday with Prof Mahmood Ayaz in the chair reportedly said that Mr Sharif’s blood reports didn’t mention platelet count while no update has been provided on the genetic tests of the ex-PM, presently in London for treatment on bail secured through the Lahore High Court in a corruption case.

It declined to give its advice until all relevant reports are provided to it.

Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid says the Medical Board’s opinion has been forwarded to the home department in response to the government’s views on Mr Sharif’s plea for extension in bail period.

In a series of tweets, Dr Adnan says the medical reports were issued by the Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospital, the best cardiovascular institute in the region, and Unversity College Hospital, London. He says that Guy’s & St Thomas Hospital has provided Haematology/Haemoncology opinion to be included in the medical summary.

He stresses that the ex-PM needs to remain under care of his healthcare providers in the UK as long as it’s necessary for his full recovery.

Saying stability of medical management is essential for his health/life, he maintains that it’ll be extremely unfortunate if the government attempts to politicize Mr Sharif’s health issue.
