Man sentenced to 55 years jail day before his wedding

TAXILA: A bridegroom was among 86 people sentenced by a Rawalpindi anti-terrorism court (ATC) to 55 years’ imprisonment a day before his wedding for holding protests over the arrest of Tehreek Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) chief Khadim Hussain Rizvi two years ago.

The family members of the bridegroom told newsmen here on Saturday that Mohammad Atif’s Mehandi function was fixed at 3pm on Friday in Pindigheb and the marriage procession was planned on Saturday. A marriage hall had been booked and all arrangements were made for Valima reception on Sunday.

However, the ATC on Thursday night sentenced Mr Atif to 55 years’ in prison along with 85 other people in a case related to holding of protests, destroying property and interfering with the police duties in Pindigheb, the hometown of the TLP chief, in 2018.

The case was registered by the Pindigheb police of Attock on Nov 24, 2018.
