Man gets death for killing brother in Chitral

CHITRAL: Additional district and sessions judge, Chitral, Mohammad Khan Yousufzai has handed down death sentence to a man from Damil village of Lower Chitral for killing his elder brother and acquitted his sister from the charge.

Drosh police station had registered the case against Momin Khan and his sister Yormas Bibi in 2017 under section 302 of PPC for killing their brother Mir Alam Khan over a land dispute.

The court observed that the prosecution had proved the charge against Momin Khan that he had killed his brother. At the same time, the benefit of doubt was given to his sister and she was acquitted.

The court also ordered the convict to pay a fine of Rs600,000 to the legal heirs of the deceased as compensation.

ROADS OPENED: The roads leading to the valleys of Garam Chashma, which had been blocked after heavy snowfall, were opened to light traffic here on Wednesday after clearance of snow and avalanche.

Executive engineer of the communication and works department, Lower Chitral, Usman Khan told this scribe that the roads of all the three Kalash valleys of Bumburate, Birir and Rumber as well as Sheshi Koh Madak Lusht roads had already been opened. He said that now all roads of Chitral valleys were open to traffic.

DPO POSTED: Zulfiqar Ahmed Tanoli has been posted as the first district police officer of Upper Chitral after its creation in March last year following bifurcation of Chitral district.

Mr Tanoli was commandant of Police Training School, Swat, before his posting in Chitral.

Meanwhile, former MPA from Upper Chitral Syed Sardar Hussain in a press statement on Wednesday demanded of the government to provide sufficient funds for construction of district secretariat and police lines in the newly-created district.
