HYDERABAD: Irrigation network being modernized: CM

HYDERABAD, Aug 20: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has said that the entire irrigation system was being modernized to bring about a green revolution in the province.

Speaking at an open kutchehry at New Dumbalo near Matli on Saturday, he said watercourses were being lined in order to ensure water supply to tail-end growers.

He said the Sindh government was doing everything possible for development of agrarian economy.

He said conscientious and hard-working government functionaries would be encouraged and rewarded while corrupt government officials who were lethargic and inefficient would be sent packing.

He said bungalows in civil lines were not owned by waderas but by high officials of irrigation and buildings and roads departments.

He said the ban on employments would be lifted after local body elections.

He said some officials even after completing their service sought extension to continue the loot.

The Sindh chief minister declared that retired officers would not be granted any extension in services in the future.

About the first phase of local body elections, he claimed the election results have proved that the people of the province had changed their thinking by rejecting those people who raised hallow slogans.

He said the people now wanted to bring those people forward who were only interested in the service of the people and the country.

He said the clear victory of the Khushhal Pakistan Panel, Haq Parast panel and Faqir Dost Panel in the first phase of elections had now silenced the voice of those people who were harping on the tune of rigging.

He urged the people of Badin district to vote for only those people in the second phase of elections who could resolve their problems.

The president of the PML Badin district, Ali Anwar Halepoto, presented an address of welcome.

Sindh minister Syed Ali Bux alias Papoo Shah, Ali Akbar Nizamani and other local leaders of the PML were present on the occasion.
