Suspect held for killing of policeman in Gulistan-i-Jauhar

KARACHI: Police on Thursday arrested a suspect for allegedly killing 30-year-old police constable Rehman Ali, who was gunned down outside his home in Pehalwan Goth in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Wednesday evening, officials said.

Investigators believed that the policeman was killed by drug peddlers in the area.

The young constable was shot at and critically wounded by gunmen when he was sitting outside his home in Pehalwan Goth.

He was in plain clothes at the time of the incident and sustained critical bullet wounds in his head and was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he died during treatment.

The victim was posted in the Special Branch of police at Saudabad.

The police on Thursday registered an FIR (132/2020) under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code against three suspects identified as Siraj, Atif and Tajdar, said station investigation officer Abdul Majeed Nagra.

The officer added that the brother of the victim who was the complainant in the case had cited two possible reasons behind the murder.

Mr Nagra said that the deceased had some personal enmity with the suspects. Besides, the victim policeman had also opposed the suspects as the alleged killers were involved in selling drugs in the area.

The police arrested one nominated suspect Tajdar while two others were absconders.

The investigation officer claimed that both the absconding suspects Siraj and Atif were involved in drug business in Pehalwan Goth.

Man held for beating daughter

Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested a man, who allegedly beat his daughter, whose video went viral on social media prompting higher authorities to take notice.

A police spokesperson said that Inspector General of Police Sindh Dr Syed Kaleem Imam took notice of the video that went viral on social media in which a father was seen beating his daughter “brutally”.

The police chief directed Central SSP to take notice of the incident.

Acting on the directions, the district Central police arrested the suspect identified as Dildar Bhatti and initiated legal proceedings against him, said Central SSP Arif Aslam Rao.

Groom booked for firing during marriage

Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested one suspect and registered a case against others, including the bridegroom, on allegation of firing into the air in jubilation during a marriage ceremony within the remit of the Shah Latif Town police station a few days ago.

The video of the incident went viral on social media prompting higher authorities to take notice, said Malir SSP Syed Mohammed Ali Raza.

The groom himself and his relatives had allegedly fired gunshots into the air during the ceremony in Green City off National Highway in Quaidabad a few days ago, said the officer.

The Shah Latif Town police arrested one suspect identified as Raja Jawad Sikander, who was seen carrying out firing in the video.

The senior officer claimed that bridegroom Raja Waqas and his brother Raja Sheeraz were firing gunshots in the video as well.
