Man held for drowning his minor nephew in canal

SAHIWAL: A man was arrested by police for allegedly drowning his minor nephew in the Lower Bari Doab Canal (LBDC) in Gamber area on Monday.

According to Yousafwala police, the arrested suspect, Azam, confessed his crime.

The police said Azam, a resident of Gamber, had a domestic dispute with his brother Waris and he nurtured grudge against him.

On Monday, Azam took Ahsan, four-year-old son of his brother, to the LBDC on the pretext of walk and pushed the minor into the canal.

Police, on the complaint of Waris, detained Azam who confessed to have drowned the child.

The suspect told police that the child kept crying for help but he let him drown.

Later, on the identification of the spot where the child was drowned by the suspect, Rescue 1122 divers, who were called by police, launched a search operation in the canal that was going on till filing of the story.

PROTEST: Pakpattan Motorcycle Dealers’ Association members on Monday staged a demonstration in protest against excise department officials alleging they demand bribe for registration of new bikes.

The association members gathered outside the local excise and taxation office and chanted slogans against the officials.

They alleged that they were being forced to pay Rs200-300 for clearance of documents of each new motorcycle.

The protesters carrying placards demanded transfer of some officials allegedly involved in corruption and a probe into the matter.
